Marine Conservation Society
The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) champions the need for marine wildlife protection, sustainable fisheries and clean seas and beaches.
Marine wildlife and vital fish stocks in the UK's seas are in great need of protection, as overfishing and pollution are having a devastating effect on marine biodiversity.
MCS's vision is of seas rich in wildlife, abundant fish stocks and pollution-free beaches and bathing waters - seas that are fit for wildlife to thrive in and people to enjoy. The charity aims to ensure that future generations are able to enjoy seas featuring abundant resources and healthy, thriving habitats.
Funding from players of People's Postcode Lottery will enable MCS to bring several thousand more volunteers out on local beaches to clean up their local shorelines. The award will also be used to encourage the public to buy the most sustainable seafood available.
