National Galleries of Scotland
The National Galleries of Scotland (NGS) look after one of the world's finest collections of Western art ranging from the Middle Ages to the present day including Scotland's national collection of Scottish and international fine art and photography. The generous support of the People's Postcode Lottery allows NGS to reach a wider public across Scotland and helps them to make spectacular exhibitions and acquisitions for the enjoyment and inspiration of visitors of all ages.
The National Galleries of Scotland (NGS) cares for, develops, researches and displays the national collection of fine art and photography. The collection is one of astounding breadth and quality, from Renaissance masterpieces by Botticelli, Raphael and Titian, through to outstanding works by modern and contemporary artists. NGS is proud to present the national collection of Scottish art within this international context.
Through a lively and innovative programme of exhibitions, learning and outreach activity and publications, NGS aims to engage, inform and inspire the broadest possible public.
Each year, the generous funding received from People's Postcode Lottery supports a range of initiatives across the Galleries. From an expansive schools programme aimed at engaging pupils across Scotland with their national collection, to the NGS zero-emissions bus that transports visitors between sites, to a programme of exhibitions embracing the very best of visual art from the historical through to the contemporary, the impact of players' support is evident across the organisation.
The National Galleries of Scotland has three sites in Edinburgh:
- The Scottish National Gallery,
- The Scottish National Portrait Gallery, and
- The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art One and Two.
And two partner galleries:
- Duff House, Banff, and
- Paxton House, Scottish Borders.
Sir John Leighton, Director-General of the National Galleries of Scotland, said,
"Our longstanding relationship with People's Postcode Lottery provides critical support for a wide range of initiatives across the National Galleries of Scotland. From a lively programme of inspiring exhibitions to a Learning and Engagement programme shaped by the communities and individuals we serve, player support enables NGS to engage and inspire new and existing audiences each year. We are enormously grateful to the players for their continued support."
