Player funding will help the Thomson Reuters Foundation shed light on the world's most under-reported news stories
The Thomson Reuters Foundation is the corporate foundation of Thomson Reuters, the global news and information services company. The charity works to advance media freedom, foster more inclusive economies, and promote human rights. Through news, media development, free legal assistance and convening initiatives, it uses the combined power of journalism and the law to build global awareness of critical issues faced by humanity, inspire collective leadership and help shape a prosperous world where no one is left behind.
The Foundation's media freedom work focuses on media for democracy and development, defending media freedom and strengthening the future of journalism. Its inclusive economy work centres around fostering fair and sustainable economic business models, combatting forced labour and human trafficking and protecting and promoting data and digital rights. Its human rights work addresses thematic issues including freedom of speech and expression, LGBT+ rights, women's rights, climate, land and property rights, forced labour and human trafficking and data and digital rights.
Support received from People's Postcode Lottery players has enabled the Foundation to expand its reporting from the frontlines of the fight against modern slavery, LGBT+ rights and land and property rights, issues often not covered by mainstream media outlets. It has also led to the scaling of its COVID-19 Crisis Reporting Hub, a training initiative launched to equip journalists with the skills and information they need to report on the pandemic in countries hit hardest by the crisis.
