£1 Million Prize

Leeds Millionaire Street

19 April 2025 - LS15 0HQ - Leeds - £1 Million
FAMILY SIGH: Philip, wife Lorraine and son James

A son won three times more than his dad on People's Postcode Lottery after he kept playing with his parents' address - despite moving out two years ago.

James Corcoran saw dad Philip scoop £50,000 before his own £150,000 cheque was revealed - as stunned mum Lorraine watched.

The cheeky hairdresser, of Leeds, Yorkshire, then quipped: "I'm buzzing. I don't live here anymore, but I didn't want to cancel.

"Imagine how gutting it would have been for them to win that, and I would have had nowt. I didn't want them winning and not me!"

Retired Philip took a pop back: "Can I have that one? He stole my postcode and won more than I did. But he needs it more than I do."

The Corcorans celebrated with 13 neighbours in Leeds after LS15 0HQ bagged the Millionaire Street prize. Every winning ticket was worth £50,000, but James and another player tripled their prizes to £150,000 with three tickets and another doubled theirs to £100,000 with two.

James told how he'll now use the cash to renovate his home - and maybe get another pet to keep his sausage dogs Joyce and Jasper company.

He said: *"I'm going to continue to renovate my house after doing up my salon - The Haus Of JC Hair - in a garden room. I've already done the bathroom.

"I going to open a bottle of champagne and I'll take my sausage dogs to go and get a little brother or sister."

He added: "I just started playing one day and stuck with it. Once you've started you don't want to cancel, do you? I'm going to keep playing here, but I'll also sign up at my new address."

Dad-of-two Philip, who only retired as a street lighting technician last month, said his winnings will go on home improvements - and holidays.

He said: "It's absolutely marvellous. That's me Euros for me holiday. You can't beat that, can you? We've got a few holidays booked. This will also go to doing up some of the house.

CHEQUE MATES: Philip and son James with their winnings

"We're going to Zante with Rachel, our daughter, and the kids and then in September we’re going back to Zante again and then in November we're going to Marrakech. Can't take it with you."

Then he pointed to a corner of the garden near his garage and said: "I'll have a new bar there next year."

Joker Philip revealed he and his son had been texting before he came round for the cheque reveals. He said in one text to James: "Your mum's made lasagne. You can have lasagne for your tea when you come round."

He laughed: "So James said, 'If I win any money today, I won't be eating mince again and certainly not my mum's lasagne!'"

Mum Lorraine was stunned when her son AND husband both bagged windfalls. The grandmother said: "It's absolutely fabulous, I can't believe it. James has brought champagne down, so we'll have a big party this afternoon most probably."

And she said it has come in time to celebrate her and Philip's Ruby Wedding in the summer with yet another hol.

She added: "We're already booked to go to Mexico in July for our 40th wedding anniversary."

Along the road, Philip Cooper and fiancée Ann-Marie Bruder revealed they'll have the wedding of their dreams after pocketing £150,000 by playing with three tickets.

The couple made the 200-mile round trip from a holiday in their new two-berth caravan in The Wirral, Merseyside, to join the street party and pick up their cheque in person with neighbours.

THREE CHEERS: Philip and Ann-Marie with Judie McCourt

Philip said: “We've come all the way from The Wirral from our holidays. Bloody hell... wow! We thought it might be about £10,000 or £15,000. This has an extra nought on what I thought we were going to get, so I'm more than happy. I feel tearful, it's hard for it to sink in."

Then the travel firm salesman turned to fiancée Ann-Marie Bruder and gushed: "We're going to spend it on a wedding."

Primary school teaching assistant Ann-Marie said: "Oh my God, I'm speechless... absolutely speechless. I'm just shocked and happy.

"We were always going to get married, but it was just a case of when. We'll bring all my family up from Liverpool and it'll be a nice time."

Philip said: "It'll just be a normal wedding, but Ann-Marie loves the outdoors."

The couple - who share three children from previous relationships - will celebrate two years of being together at the end of May after meeting in a pub that Ann-Marie was working in part-time.

Philip proposed months later by a waterfall on a hike in Gordale Scar, a gorge in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, where they had their second date. Now they are hoping to pimp up their plans before the big day next year.

Ann-Marie said: "This will help big time."

HAPPIER COUPLE: Philip and Ann-Marie have big plans for their wedding

The couple said they would mark their win with an Indian meal on their return to the caravan.

Philip said: "We've just bought the caravan, and we'll use it for holidays over the next 10 or so years. We're hoping to do all of the UK.

And he said they'd also like to splash out on a couple of dream holidays. He said: "We want to go to Italy... rural Italy. And Ann-Marie would like a nice holiday in Greece with her daughter."

Ann-Marie said: "We'll give the kids something, too. We'll look after the family. But we'll sit on it for a bit and let it sink in.

She added that she loved the idea of sharing the Postcode Lottery prize with neighbours.

She said: "I gave one of our neighbours a hug the other day and said, 'I'm so glad you're in it as well'. Having other people to share the joy and happiness is everything. There's no joy if you're the only one."

Neighbour Angela Walker wanted an early morning visit from the Postcode Lottery team - so she didn't miss her pre-booked hair appointment.

Retired Angela said: "If I cancel this appointment, I might have to wait another three or four weeks and my hair would be totally grey by then!"

She was joined by husband of 45 years, Billy, for her winning reveal of £100,000, thanks to playing with two tickets - and he was thrilled to see just how much his wife had won.

Retired printer Billy said: "It's life changing really, isn't it?"

GARDEN PARTY: Delighted Angela and Billy celebrate on their back lawn

The couple, who have been together since they were 17, are parents to four children and five grandchildren.

But for a long time they didn't think having a large family would be possible.

Angela, who worked supporting children with behavioural needs, said: "It's very strange because we'd been married seven years before we had one and I was on fertility tablets because we couldn't have children at first and then all of a sudden, we had four!"

The couple are now thinking about taking a lengthy cruise to visit their only daughter. Angela said: "Well, first I would have liked a Mediterranean one but at the moment, my daughter's living in Australia and it's too far for us to fly and I was looking at cruises to there.

"You have to travel about eight to ten weeks, but we're retired so that wouldn't really matter would it?"

They'd also like to go back to one of their favourite travel destinations, Madeira. But first, Angela has more immediate plans to toast her win.

She said: "I think we've still got a bottle of champagne left from Christmas that we haven't opened yet. We might be opening that tonight."

Petrolhead Peter Coleman started dreaming of a new motor after taking in his £50,000 cheque and has his eyes on a new Mustang.

The semi-retired driver said: "I've been looking at one of them. It's the new one. The all-electric one."

Wife Denise quipped: "I don't know why because he's only had this one 18 months. He's always changing his cars."

MR MOTOR-VATOR: Peter and Denise eyeing up new car

The couple, who’ve been married 45 years, already have a Spanish holiday planned to Lloret de Mar with all the family, including their daughter, son and five grandsons.

Denise said: "We have booked to go with the children anyway. We’re taking them away in July."

Grandad Alan Coates picked up £50,000 just days after his birthday and is already eyeing up a new motor like Peter.

Now the auto fanatic will consider replacing his beloved S-Type Jaguar, his seventh Jag, for a new BMW.

He said: "I’d like a BMW 6 Series. I had one before, but it was a two door. They make a GT version now with four doors."

ON CREST OF A WAVE: Alan and Hilda drove to old address for prize

Alan and wife Hilda drove back to the street from their new home in the city five years after flitting - but continued to play Postcode Lottery at their old address.

The retired civil servant said: "What a way to celebrate after a big birthday. It is thrilling. Absolutely brilliant... thank you.

"It means everything to me. I've never won anything like this in my life before. It will make such a difference.

"It is a fantastic day for us and also for the charities that Postcode Lottery helps here and abroad. It is a brilliant organization and everyone that can afford it should do it."

Mum-of-two Hilda added: "We'll have a nice holiday, and we'd like to look after the children as well."

Estelle Hewitt has holidays in mind following her £50,000 win despite just getting back from a trip.

The retired social care inspection manager celebrated her birthday in style last year with a Canary Islands cruise and has just returned from another ocean-going adventure.

The grandmother-of-two said: "This year I've just come back from a Caribbean cruise. Flew to Barbados, then Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts, Martinique, Saint Martin... we went to nine different islands in fifteen days."

HIGH NUMBERS: Estelle stunned by size of win

As well as thinking about further travel, Estelle might upgrade her current 2008 car, adding: "I might just have a bit of a change."

But most importantly, she plans to enjoy spending her winnings. She said: "I'll tell you what I'm not doing, I'm not leaving it in the bank. I'm going to spend it!"

Estelle's next door neighbour Christine Wilson gave her a cuddle after they both got their winnings and revealed she has plans to upgrade her semi bungalow with her £50,000.

The retired teaching assistant said: "I'm going to be doing my house up, bring it up to scratch with a new kitchen and bathroom.

"I'll also have a nice holiday with my daughter and granddaughter."

Grandmother Christine added: "I'm happy that other people in the street have won, too. It brings people closer, and we all need that."

Meanwhile, all £50,000 winner Kathleen Dobson wants to spend her £50,000 on is a new door! The great-grandmother was joined by her husband and daughter for the winning celebrations. Upon seeing her winning cheque, she said: "I want a new patio door!"

Hubby Ralph added: "She keeps saying it's draughty."

Neil Connolly was already making retirement plans after battling bowel cancer for the past four years when he also scooped £50,000.

The dad-of-one, who works as an air compressor service engineer, said: "I'll spend some of it on the house to get it ready for me downsizing. I'm happy... this will go a long way."

STREET PAVED WITH GOLD: Winning neighbours join Judie for a knees-up

The neighbours all joined Postcode Lottery to support local, national and international charities.

And they were delighted to learn that their wins meant charities in the Leeds area also bagged a share of another £1 Million.

And one organisation - Space2 Leeds - has received £30,000 from Postcode Community Trust, supported by players of People's Postcode Lottery.

Space2 has been working in Leeds for over 20 years, engaging ordinary people with a range of arts, cooking and growing activities which offer opportunities for them to learn new skills, make friends and improve their health and wellbeing.

Sarah Tolkin, co-Director Business and Governance at Space2, said: "We've always firmly believed that creative activities can give people a sense of fulfilment and belonging. They can bring people together and encourage them to share their personal stories and feelings. And we know that arts and physical activities are good for your health and wellbeing. They also help to bring people together.

"We work with local artists to provide a range of activities from regular men's groups, choirs, performance poetry, community gardens and clothing recycling projects, which encourage people to learn new skills and make friends along the way - which all contributes to their health and wellbeing.

"We also try to involve our participants in the decision-making process so that they feel invested in what they are doing."

She added: "Thanks to the support of People's Postcode Lottery players, this funding means we will be able to offer a full programme of free activities right here in Gipton and Harehills for local people to enjoy throughout 2025 and into 2026."

Other local charities who have benefitted from this week's Millionaire Street prize include:
